IT'S NOT JUST BUILDING A HOUSE, IT'S HOW WE DO IT THAT MATTERS

As an EarthCraft,  ENERGY STAR, EPA Indoor airPLUS , and LEED for Homes builder, Green Valley Builders pays close attention to the materials we use and strives to recycle as much construction waste as possible. Each job site is not only clean from debris and waste, but we also have recycling bins for our team and subcontractors to recycle left over material and day-to-day items like aluminum cans and plastic bottles.

Construction Material Recycled from Mt. Tabor Meadows since 2008
Scrap spruce lumber and pallets for mulch
23.04 tons
 Cardbord 6.22 tons
 Plastic pop bottles
 515 lbs
Aluminum cans and siding scrap
730 lbs
Scrap metal
3.23 tons
Insulated wire and other metal
591 lbs
OSB board
6813.5 lbs recut into useable pieces
Pressure treated lumber
1058.3 lbs kept out of landfill

We have also partnered with Virginia Tech to take a look at the amount of OSB, treated lumber and spruce dimension lumber waste after home construction and determine potential uses for discarded material as an alternative to landfilling. Initial results show that during the construction of Mt. Tabor Meadows in 2008, 35-50% of the OSB waste material as well as 35-50% of the treated lumber waste can be recycled into solid-wood useable products. The remaining materials can be recycled for biofuels and mulch. This study is still in the early stages, click here to see Virginia Tech's initial report.
