Summer is here and there is a lot going on this month in the NRV. We’ve done some research for you on activities that will help you beat the heat and won’t put a pinch on your wallet!

  • Summer Concert Series at Virginia Tech: June 17th and 24th from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm.  Visit http://www.sopac.vt.edu/events/summer_arts_festival.html for more details.

  • Draper Valley Farmer’s and Artisan Market at the Draper Mercantile: June 18th and 24th from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm the market features fresh local foods, artisan demonstrations, live music, hot food, and ice cream.
  • Pearisburg Festival in the Park and Car Show at the Pearisburg Community Center: Free festival on June 18th from 9:00 am – 10:00 pm with rides, games, great food, live entertainment, craft vendors, exhibitors, auction, pet show, and car show.

Looking for some family activities to beat the heat?  Try some of these ideas…

Head to the Library: Each Tuesday the Christiansburg library features a “Make and Take” craft, and each of the local libraries have weekly storytime. Visit the Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library website for more details!

Water Gun Capture the Flag: Grab your neighbors and start up a summer version of this classic game. Fill water balloons to serve as each team’s “flag” and instead of “tagging” opponents, use water guns or spray bottles to “freeze” them. To release a frozen teammate, simply squirt them again!

Bowling: Bowling is a perfect way to beat the heat while letting your kids spend some energy throwing a ball that is too heavy to lift.
